I learned a new word today! As well as a new philosophy.
hygge (hoo-gah): this Danish concept cannot be translated to one single word but encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life
I love this concept so much! I have now found the perfect Danish word to describe my life goals every winter. It encompasses the general feeling that we all look forward to with the coming of the cold months, especially here in the mountains. (Unless you’re into snow activities like skiing and such, which I honestly can’t relate to).
If you’re going to be confined indoors, you need to make your space a sanctuary, a cosy and comfortable space that puts you in a good mindset. It’s the simple things that bring in the hygge and push away the winter fogginess. A pop of color and some twinkly lights around the room. A steaming mug of sweet, rich yumminess. A small fuzzy creature snoozing in your lap.
Before even knowing the word, I have sought to include hygge in my home as much as possible. Candles, cosy blankets, furry cats. The simple things. I don’t really know if I have a definite style other than hygge. I’m not chic, or quite bohemian, or even minimalistic ( I’m too much of a bibliophile for that). Now I’m going to be obsessed with this word for months.
I also made some candles for presents today, which I’ve never done and it was really fun. Hope to do it again in the future with the knowledge I learned from the experience today. With all these candles around and the fire going, I’m really feeling that Hygge Vibe.
Well there’s not much to this post today. I’ve been quite busy with Christmas preparations (and the endless task of wrapping presents haha). I haven’t had as much time to devote to my writing lately, but now that I’ve found a new passion for creating here, I know I won’t be gone long 🙂
Blessings to all this holiday season ♥
